Partial Dentures
Partial Denture Service
A partial denture is used to restore mouth function and appearance when you are missing some but not all of your teeth. Your denture will be custom-made to fit around your teeth and create a natural-looking smile. When you choose a partial denture to replace missing teeth you’ll get an instant confidence boost from your new smile, as well as gaining extra support for your facial muscles (which reduces the signs of ageing) and protection for your remaining healthy teeth.
How Does a Partial Denture Work?
A partial denture is kept stable in the mouth by clasps attached to your natural teeth. The plate is fully removable so you can take it out for cleaning after meals and at night by simply sliding the clasps over the teeth.
Upper Partial
Denture
An upper partial denture is worn on the upper jaw where some natural teeth remain in place. It will have a central plate – usually made out of metal – which fits to the roof of your mouth to keep it in place and make it feel safe and comfortable to wear.
Lower Partial
Denture
Lower partial dentures are custom-made to fit your lower jaw and accommodate your natural teeth. This type of denture is designed in a horseshoe shape so that it fits comfortably around your tongue.
How Do You Clean a Partial Denture?
It’s important to clean your denture every day to make sure any bacteria that could harm your natural teeth is removed and to prevent denture staining. At Coorparoo Denture Clinic we recommend using a dedicated denture brush to clean your appliance, as these have soft bristles, especially shaped to fit a denture.
Clean your denture by rinsing it thoroughly to remove food debris, and brush it gently with a denture cleaner or mild soap – traditional toothpastes are generally too abrasive for this delicate process.
